Osmosis Treatment

Having discovered your boat has an osmosis problem this is not the end of the world.

Bridgend Boat Co Ltd offer a complete osmosis treatment package that is carried out in our temperature and humidity controlled workshop, providing you with the assurance that the process will be monitored and controlled through to completion.

Osmosis is the blistering and decomposition of the gelcoat and laminate which allows water to penetrate into the structure damaging the hull surface and lay up.

Below is a simplified process of events that take place during our procedures for osmosis treatments.

  • Lift the boat from the water
  • Peeling or grit blasting to remove gelcoat
    and prepare surface
  • Clean and dry hull
  • Apply primer to manufacturers specification
  • Apply filler to re-build surface
  • Sand and profile
  • Apply the osmosis treatment coatings
  • Apply last coat of primer
  • Finish with antifoul
  • Re-launch
